6) Characteristics
a)Good toughness. The impact value is similar to that of medium carbon steel and more than 10 times that of gray iron.
b) Strong corrosion resistance. In the water spray corrosion test, the corrosion amount in 90 days is only 1/40 of that of steel pipe and 1/10 of that of gray iron pipe. The service life is twice that of gray iron pipe and 5 times that of ordinary steel pipe.
c) Good plasticity. The elongation is ≥7%, which is similar to high carbon steel, while the elongation of gray iron material is zero.
d) High strength. The tensile strength ób ≥ 420MPa and the yield strength ós ≥ 300MPa are the same as those of low carbon steel and three times that of gray iron.
7)Product Advantages
a) ductile iron manhole covers are light in weight and easy to transport and install. The material has been finely processed, and the weight of the manhole cover is lighter than that of traditional concrete manhole covers. It is often used as a cover for some overhead line joints, without damaging or disassembling the line, which is very practical.
b) ductile iron manhole covers have strong wear resistance and long service life. Ductile iron manhole covers are made of ductile iron materials through cooling treatment, have good wear resistance and tensile strength, and have a long service life, which reduces the frequency of replacement of conventional manhole covers and reduces the cost of daily use and maintenance.
c) ductile iron manhole covers have good sealing properties. Ductile iron manhole covers have strong waterproof, dustproof, and rodent-proof capabilities. It especially suitable for sections with strict waterproof requirements or places where effective measures are needed to protect pipes from leaks, ensuring that underground pipes will not be damaged by the coating, preventing liquids from entering the sewer, and avoiding possible environmental pollution and water shortages.
d) ductile iron manhole covers have ohigh anti-theft perfrmance. The material properties of ductile iron manhole covers make it extremely difficult to be illegally opened or damaged after installation, which can effectively solve the problems of theft and damage, and effectively protect the property and personal safety of the masses.
Due to the spherical graphite microstructure of ductile iron, ductile iron is better than cast steel in terms of vibration reduction ability, so it is more conducive to reducing stress. An important reason for choosing ductile iron is that ductile iron is cheaper than cast steel. The low cost of ductile iron makes this material more popular, with higher casting efficiency and reduced machining costs of ductile iron.
The strength of ductile iron is comparable to that of cast steel. Ductile iron has a higher yield strength, with a minimum yield strength of 40k, while cast steel has a yield strength of only 36k. In most municipal applications, such as water, brine, steam, etc., ductile iron has better corrosion and oxidation resistance than cast steel.
Manhole covers are often made out of cast iron, concrete or a combination the two. This makes them inexpensive, strong, and heavy, usually weighing more than 113 kilograms (249 lb). The weight helps to keep them in place when traffic passes over them, and makes it difficult for unauthorized people without suitable tools to remove them.
Manhole covers may also be made from glass-reinforced plastic or other composite material (especially in Europe, or where cover theft is of concern). Because of law restricting acceptable manual handling weights, Europe has seen a move towards lighter weight composite manhole cover materials, which also have the benefits of greater slip resistance and electrical insulating properties.
Other manhole shapes can be found, usually squares or rectangles. For example, in the United Kingdom nearly all manhole covers are square or rectangular and very occasionally triangular, but almost never circular. Nashua, New Hampshire, is unusual for having triangular manhole covers that point in the direction of the underlying flow. In 2011, the city began gradually phasing out the triangles,[9] which were made by a local foundry, because they were not large enough to meet modern safety standards and a manufacturer for larger triangles could not be found. Some manhole covers in Hamilton, Bermuda, are triangular, and hinged. Some triangular water-main covers also exist in San Francisco
Product Application
Ductile iron light manhole covers are widely used in the following areas:
1 Roads
Ductile iron light manhole covers are widely used in urban roads and highways to cover facilities such as drainage ditches, inspection wells and guardrails to ensure smooth and safe roads.
2 Sidewalks
Ductile iron light manhole covers are also suitable for areas such as sidewalks, pedestrian streets and parks. It can provide a flat walking surface and play a role in protecting pedestrian safety.
3 Parking lots
Ductile iron light manhole covers can be used in the rainwater drainage system of parking lots to ensure that rainwater flows quickly into the drainage pipes to avoid problems caused by water accumulation.
4 Industrial areas
Production facilities and storage areas in industrial areas often require ductile iron light manhole covers to support the transportation of heavy vehicles and goods and protect the pipe system below.

The covers usually feature "pick holes", into which a hook handle tool is inserted to lift them. Pick holes can be concealed for a more watertight lid, or can allow light to shine through. A manhole pick or hook is typically used to lift them, though other tools can be used as well, including electromagnets.
In urban road administration, a circular shape is generally used because circular manhole covers are not easy to tilt and can better protect the safety of pedestrians and vehicles. The circular shape is mainly used because the length of each diameter of the circular manhole cover passing through its center is the same. In this way, if the manhole cover is rolled up by a passing vehicle, no matter how it is rolled up, its diameter will be slightly wider than the wellhead below, and the manhole cover will not fall into the wellhead.
