Drainage is a ubiquitous part of construction. It's so common that it often goes unnoticed until something goes wrong and water backs up around it. From culverts near fields to ramps along city streets, water management is important for all types of construction and landscaping. Trench drains are found in many of these drainage systems. (They're so common that they go by a variety of names. Trench drains are also called channel drains, strip drains, linear drains, or line drains.) The small channels these trenches form are surface capillaries designed to capture and transport water to sewers, bioswales, softscapes, and streams.
